News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This represents the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.

The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
